Poole welcomes the biggest WaStop in the UK
The Holes Bay area of Poole lies in the North Western reaches of the Harbour. It is the 2nd Largest natural harbour in the World. However, there are ever-increasing demands on the surface water drainage system. Therefore, further flood defences were required in order to protect the area from tidal flooding for years to come.
ACE supplied a number of WaStop valves in 2014. These covered a number of
As part of the scheme, ACE worked closely with the Council to come up with the design of 2 new flood defences at Sterte & Creekmoor. By bridging the gap between the walls of 2 drainage channels, the new headwalls not only created a shortcut for pedestrians and cyclists, but also a home for the new WaStop valves. These allow water to drain into the harbour, but protect the channel from the high tides which were previously causing flooding.
Unlike traditional flood defence structures, the WaStop has no mechanical moving parts, is easy to install and requires no hands-on maintenance. Therefore, provides peace of mind to the council. Plus, the people of Poole know that they are protected from flooding for many years to come.
