WaStop valve fitted at tidal outfall

At 215 miles (346 km), the River Thames is the longest river entirely in England. It is also the second longest in the United Kingdom after the River Severn.

In the area of Richmond/Kew in west London, South of the River Thames, there was a frequent issue of surface water flooding. Especially when a high tide coincided with heavy rainfall.

An old existing cast iron flap valve that was in place. However, it was leaking significantly and was therefore in need of replacement.

ACE designed a bespoke flange arrangement that included a smaller Wastop to sit at the bottom of the egg-shaped pipe. This would cater for low flows and keep the outfall discharging with minimal head pressure.

A larger Wastop valve sat at the top of the pipe and was able to allow the pipe to discharge when fully charged.

The valve was installed seamlessly and the customer was pleased stating, “Thank you to ACE for installing WaStops efficiently on a challenging site, with a fantastic looking result!”Adrian Smith, Thames Water

Aquatic Control Engineering would like to thank Thames Water for their assistance with this project.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
