Flap Valves
A flap valve is a type of non-return device for water or sewerage. The purpose of a flap valve is to ensure water can pass through the valve in one direction only.
One-Way Flow
Flap valves are designed to ensure water can pass through in one direction only, effectively preventing backflow.
Swinging Door Mechanism
The operation of flap valves is based on a swinging door that opens with the flow of water and shuts when the downstream water level is higher.
Non-Return Device
Serving as a non-return device for water or sewerage, flap valves play a crucial role in maintaining directional flow.

About Flap Valves
Flap valves operate by water flowing through a pipe or culvert and pushing the swinging door open. When the water level on the downstream side of the flap valve is higher than in the pipe or culvert it presses the swinging, door shut and prevents the water traveling back through the system.
Why Choose Flap Valves
01
Effective Backflow Prevention
The unique design of flap valves prevents water from traveling back through the system, enhancing the efficiency of water or sewerage systems.
02
Responsive To Water Levels
Flap valves respond to changes in downstream water levels, ensuring consistent one-way flow even under varying conditions.
03
Versatile Applications
From pipes and culverts to ports, rivers, and coastal areas, flap valves can be used in a wide range of settings for effective water management.
04
Simplified Operation
With their straightforward swinging door mechanism, flap valves are easy to operate and maintain.

Frequently Asked Questions
A flap valve is in essence a door that only allows water or sewerage to flow in one direction. The flap valve is opened by the water flowing through and forcing the door open. Once the downstream water level rise and force the door shut nothing can flow back through. Our flap valve range is available in sizes from 100mm, and we can build bespoke sizes to accommodate the site
Our flap valves are predominantly made from HDPE, however for larger sizes stainless steel 316 options are available. HDPE is a great material for flap valves for a number of reasons. Firstly, HDPE is buoyancy neutral in water meaning our flap valves offer low headloss. Secondly, HDPE is environmentally friendly when compared with alternative flap valve materials. Finally, HDPE has great ductility meaning is excellent at absorbing knocks from debris.
Yes. Our flap valves come with a complete fixing kit and can be installed extremely easily. Check out this installation video to see for yourself – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLcXWlsEmKw
The ACE flap valve range can be mounted in many options depending on the requirements of the site. We offer the standard wall mounted flap valves, pipe mounted, and flange mounted. If you are unsure of what you require, please contact us.

More About Flap Valves
We were the first in the UK to provide stainless steel and HDPE non-return valves (NRV’s). Alternatives to the outdated cast iron versions used in the past. It has been our philosophy to use modern materials and up to date technologies. As a result, reducing maintenance, carbon footprint and increase asset life. This has enabled us to forge our strong position which we hold in the UK market today.
It is this strong position that enabled us to use the years’ of experience to design and manufacture their own brand of flap valves called AQUIKO.
