Rotating Arm Weedscreen Cleaners
Pumping stations and outfalls depend on clear intake screens. Weed, reeds and floating debris build up quickly, which cuts flow to the pumps and puts anyone clearing them by hand at risk. A rotating arm weedscreen cleaner rakes the screen automatically, lifts the debris out and swings round to drop it in a skip or on a discharge area. The station keeps running without anyone needing to go on site.
Stationary
Mounted on a slewing ring, the cleaner turns on the spot between the screen and a fixed discharge point. Well suited to small and medium-sized pumping stations.
Rail-mounted
Runs along rails to reach wider screens or more than one discharge point. It can also be fitted to rotate.
Heavy Duty
A heavier arm reaches deeper screens. Grab widths run from 2.6m to 3.5m, so the full width of the inlet is cleared in one pass.

About Weedscreen Cleaners
A blocked screen can stop a pumping station when it’s needed most. Rotating arm cleaners keep the intake clear around the clock, cut down on manual clearing and help protect pumps from damage.
ACE takes care of the whole job: design, supply, installation, controls and commissioning. Our after-sales and service team supports every cleaner once it’s running.
Why Choose Weedscreen Cleaners
01
Efficient Debris Management
Automatic grab / rake systems lift debris securely and deposit it to skip or dump areas — protecting intakes from blockage and reducing manual cleaning requirements.
02
Flexible, Automatic Operation
Cleaning can be triggered by timer, water-level sensor, or pump start/stop — giving reliable performance even at remote or unmanned sites.
03
Tailored To Site Conditions
ACE designs each unit to suit screen geometry, debris type and hydraulic conditions, minimising installation complexity and maximising performance.
04
High Capacity & Heavy-Duty
With payload options from around 210 kg up to 1.5 t (or as specified for bespoke units), weedscreen cleaners can manage heavy debris loads — from vegetation and weed to branches and litter — keeping screening systems reliable even under heavy debris inflow.

Frequently Asked Questions
An electro-hydraulic drive lowers the arm down the face of the screen. The grab rakes debris upwards, and a closing plate clamps it in place as the arm lifts. The cleaner then rotates to the discharge point and releases the load. A timer, a level difference across the screen or the pumps starting up can each set off a cleaning cycle.
Net lifting capacity is 500 kg, driven by a 5.5 kW motor. The boom is stainless steel as standard. The grab is galvanised steel, with stainless steel 304 or 316 and a bar grid bucket available as options.
Yes. Each cleaner is set up around the site, whether that means one fixed discharge point or several. A closing plate that moves along the boom lets the cleaner drop debris at different points. We survey the site and advise on the right setup before installation.
The housing has doors on three sides, so engineers can reach everything easily. There are no pivot points in contact with the water, which means less wear where it matters most.

More About Weedscreen Cleaners
Automatic weedscreen cleaners are an essential component of modern water-intake and pumping-station infrastructure — especially in flood-defence, drainage, stormwater or river-intake applications where floating debris, weed, vegetation or litter can rapidly accumulate. Unlike static bar screens or wedge-wire screens that require frequent manual cleaning (which is labour-intensive and costly), automated cleaners provide consistent, reliable clearing — lowering operational risk, reducing maintenance-costs, and ensuring uninterrupted water flow.
At ACE, our design approach balances durable construction, automated control, and flexibility to match complex intake geometries or variable flow conditions. We coordinate the full project lifecycle — from initial site survey, structural integration and civil design, through installation, commissioning and long-term maintenance — giving clients confidence that their intakes will remain clear, their pumps protected, and their water infrastructure resilient.
Typical Technical Specification (Indicative)
-
Automatic grab or rake system on overhead monorail or rail/traverse system
-
Payload capacity from ~210 kg up to 1.5 t (or higher for bespoke installations)
-
Configurable operation: timer, water-level / head differential sensor, or pump-synchronised activation
-
Suitable for intakes of various widths, depths and flow rates — freshwater, surface water, river inflows, upstream of pumps or culverts
-
Designed for minimal submerged moving parts — easier maintenance, improved reliability, reduced risk of mechanical failure or blockage
-
Optional conveyor or skip-dump configuration for efficient debris disposal
Whether you’re upgrading an older intake, designing a new pumping station, or simply aiming to improve flood resilience and reduce ongoing maintenance costs, ACE’s weedscreen cleaners deliver dependable, long-term performance — giving you one less thing to worry about.
